This additional protected habitat was made possible through a generous land bequest from the late Thomas Lee Maddux\, a dedicated educator and lifelong conservationist who passed away in February 2025.\n\nThe 128-acre property features a rich tapestry of mixed pine and hardwood forest situated along Peach Creek\, a vital component of the San Jacinto River watershed. Located approximately 10 miles southwest of Cleveland\, Texas\, the sanctuary sits in a region that has experienced significant population growth over the last decade. The protection of this acreage ensures that critical habitat for birds is preserved amidst increasing local development.\n\n\n\nCome learn more about it at our August luncheon from Pete Deichmann\, Land Conservation Director.
